In total, the Pebble Partnership holds mineral rights to 186 square miles of lands surrounding the Pebble deposit. Most of this land package was assembled by Cominco (now Teck) when it held the property from 1988 to 1997.

The Pebble exploration lands are located in an area of southwest Alaska that the U.S. Geological Survey has listed as the world's most extensive mineralized system

In addition to geological mapping and geochemical surveys, induced polarization surveys (the principal tool that geologists use to identify copper-gold porphyry deposits) have been undertaken over much of the exploration lands. IP surveys led Northern Dynasty to identify at least four other deposit targets - all of which have been the focus of preliminary drilling programs.
