The Pebble deposit is on state land in southwest Alaska specifically designated for mineral exploration and development. Surrounding terrain is characterized by tundra, gently rolling hills and the absence of permafrost. At just 1,000-feet above sea-level and 65 miles from tidewater on Cook Inlet, the project setting presents few obstacles to successful mine and infrastructure development.
In order to facilitate an environmentally sound and socially responsible mine plan, and support project permitting, the Pebble Partnership has undertaken one of the most exhaustive environmental study programs in the history of U.S. mineral development. Seven years and approximately US$150 million have been spent on environmental and socioeconomic studies to support project design and permitting.
The Pebble Partnership expects to present its preliminary project design to public stakeholders prior to initiating permitting.
