2014
  • The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) initiates a pre-emptive regulatory action under Section 404(c) of the Clean Water Act with potential to restrict future development of Pebble

  • The Pebble Partnership launches a multi-dimensional strategy to address EPA's pre-emptive regulatory action and ensure the Pebble Project can advance to federal and state permitting unencumbered by any extraordinary development restrictions. Steps include:

  • Litigation in federal court, leading to a Preliminary Injunction temporarily restricting EPA from taking any actions with respect to its CWA 404(c) action. The Preliminary Injunction granted in November 2014 reflects the US federal court judge's view that the Pebble Partnership has a 'likelihood of success on the merits' of its case; and
  • Facilitation of an investigation into EPA actions by the independent Office of the EPA Inspector General

  • Updated resource estimate based on drilling through 2013 shows increase in measured and indicated resources for the project

2013
  • The Pebble Partnership releases a comprehensive study authored by IHS Global Insight entitled The Economic and Employment Contributions of a Conceptual Pebble Mine to the Alaska and United States Economies, detailing potential economic contributions to the State of Alaska and the United States(1)

  • Anglo American withdraws from the Pebble Project after some US $573 million investment -- Northern Dynasty re-acquires 100% ownership of the project

2012

  • The Pebble Partnership releases its Environmental Baseline Document containing 27,000 pages of scientific data and analyses characterizing a broad range of environmental and social conditions in southwest Alaska. For most study disciplines, data collected represents information gathered between 2004 and 2008

  • The one millionth foot of drilling at the Pebble Project exemplifies the scope and scale of the comprehensive technical and scientific work programs designed to fully understand the mineral resource, geological setting and natural environment at Pebble

2011

  • Northern Dynasty receives positive Preliminary Assessment Technical Report indicating Pebble has the potential to become one of the most important metal producers of the 21st century

2008

  • The Pebble Fund is established as a five-year, $5 million commitment to support community-led initiatives that enhance the health of Bristol Bay fisheries and contribute to a sustainable economic future in southwest Alaska

  • Updated resource estimate confirms Pebble as one of the world's most important copper-gold-molybdenum deposits

2007

  • Northern Dynasty and Anglo American enter into a 50:50 partnership to develop a modern, long-life mine at Pebble

  • Northern Dynasty secures listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)

2006

  • Drilling at Pebble East continues to expand high-grade porphyry discovery

2005

  • Northern Dynasty acquires 100% of the Pebble deposit

  • Northern Dynasty discovers Pebble East -- a significantly higher-grade zone of mineralization and sets out to fully delineate the extent of the Pebble East zone

2001 - 2004

  • Northern Dynasty expands the known mineral resource at Pebble from 1 billion to more than 4 billion tonnes; initiates planning for a large-scale, open pit mine and comprehensive engineering, environmental and socio-economic studies

2001

  • Northern Dynasty secures agreements to purchase Pebble property

1988 - 1997

  • Cominco (now Teck) holds mineral rights to Pebble and explores the property

(1) The IHS Global report is based on a conceptual mine plan using an iteration of the engineering work undertaken by the Pebble Partnership at that time. No final project design has been selected or approved at this time. The IHS report is intended to provide information about general economic effects/contribution of a development at Pebble to Alaska and the United States. The report should not be used to evaluate the Pebble Project's impact on Northern Dynasty.</html>
